Giving is such a dominant theme at Christmas. We spend a great amount of time and resources to find just the right gift to give that special someone. We love that feeling when we realize that we have found that “perfect gift” and we find ourselves just as excited about giving the gift as they are receiving it. To be honest, I am not a great gift-giver. It’s not that I don’t want to be generous or show my love for others. I am just not very good at finding the right gifts. I am constantly looking for hints and suggestions from people so I can remotely find a gift that will matter to them.

In contrast to my gift giving skills I am so thankful that God is the ultimate gift-giver. James 1:17 says, Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. The phrase “every good and perfect gift” literally means that God is a good gift giver and gives perfect gifts. The Bible describes God giving us many things like peace, wisdom, joy, strength, etc., but the greatest example of His gift-giving prowess is in the gift of His Son Jesus Christ. God knew that my greatest gift need was the forgiveness of sins and to be restored in fellowship with Him. However, He also knew that the price tag for this gift would be sending His Son to die for us.

Christmas is a time for giving. In the midst of our gift-giving this year let us not forget the one who perfected the art of giving. John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God LOVED, He GAVE, We BELIEVE, We LIVE!

Merry Christmas
